1.What was the most difficult assessment item you completed in COIS20025 this term?

First assessment was difficult to me .

2.What was difficult about it and how would you suggest it could be improved?

Drawing the data flow diagrams was difficult to me using the drawing tools. This was solved once the assessment was completed by going through the tutorials using the internet and consulting the friends.

In this term, I have learnt

Different system development strategies

Managing the systems implementation, support and securities.

Different Ethical and social issues involved in the system development process

 

4.What career are you working towards?

I am working towards being the system analyst.

 

5.How will you be able to use the knowledge and skills learnt in this course in your future career?

From this course, I learnt about the different phases involved in the system development life cycle which would help in applying them in implementation of system development in any organisation and solve their system development problems.

1) Dingsoyr, T. (2004). Software process improvement: 11th European conference. EuroSPI.

The book software process improvement gives the exact differences as well as the similarities between the outsource development and the In house development of the software. It covers the issues like strategies of outsourcing and development of the enterprise by outsourcing the software.

 

2) John T . Boardman, B. T. (2001). structured engagement in the extended enterprise. international journal of operations and production management , 795-811.

This article gives the clear explanation of the outsourcing and the in-house development with the live examples and their definitions. The current journal also Describes a current “action research” towards the outsource project that is investigating potential lead-time reductions within an extended enterprise’s product introduction process. This aims to produce process visualizations, a framework for structuring and synchronizing phases and stage-gates within the extended enterprise, and a new simulation tool which will provide a synthetic distributed hypermedia network.

3) Marc J. Schniederjans, A. M. (2005). Outsourcing and insourcing in an international context . M.E sharpe,Inc.

This book starts with the definitions of the outsourcing and the in-house development and are been elaborately explained in international context. The information in the book relates to the course outcome. Topics in the book covered includes why use of outsourcing, strategic planning in core competencies, the economics of outsourcing and outsourcing trends. By covering all these topics it also gave clear explanation of the advantages and the disadvantages of outsourcing and in-house development.

  • · Purpose  :  To deal with the financial issues of the restaurant.

  • · Output Data Flows :Ordered Food Bill , Payment details
  • · Process description: The Main job of this process to deal with the bill payments. Payment System calculate the bill for the ordered food by taking details like food item price from the data storage  and collects the payment for the bill generated.

1) What is involved when outsourcing system development?

Answer:

Outsourcing: The technique used by the organisations or companies to develop/build their systems using the third party sources .In other words, Companies sub-contracts any other companies to develop the systems or to complete the Job is called Outsourcing.

The Major reason to outsource the project is for cost cutting.

The major activities involved when outsourcing system development are

  2. Development of system

Fact finding: Some techniques are involved in finding the facts

  • Observation
  • Research
  • Interviewing
  • Sampling
  • Surveys
  • questionnaires

Development of system: Other major activity involved in outsourcing is to develop the system. System can be developed using the facts that are found in earlier process.

Answer:

The Major activities involved when developing systems in-house are

  • System analysis
  • System development

System analysis: Analysis phase is used to analyse the system requirements to visualize the clear picture of the system to develop .

The activities involved in the phase are

  • Requirements modelling
  • Data and process modelling
  • Object modelling
  • Development strategies

System development: In the process of developing the system in-house, system0 analyst document the collected and analysed information carefully   and record it .Such that he can describe the information system properly for the development of the system.

Answer:

Research is the best way to search for the articles about the discussion of the required topic .

What basic functions will the system need to provide?

The basic functions which the system should handle are

1: Providing a confirmation of booking for the customer.

2: Dealing with financial issues like calculating the expenses for accommodation, food (if any) etc and processing their payments and generating a receipt.

3: It should also be able to provide with the details of previous and future bookings given a specific period on    demand (e.g. like providing with the details of previous month bookings and next month bookings).

What information do you need to find out about the business processes to develop a detailed understanding of the required system?

Accommodation cost: The cost per night which includes both Accommodation and meals.

Payment methods: Payment can be done through EFTPOS and credit cards

Booking method: Client can book for accommodation through mail, e-mail or phone, which are processed through their officer computer (in-house booking).

Confirmation of booking: Processed client request is sent back to the client through e-mail, post or fax.

End of client’s stay: The bill includes accommodation costs, restaurant cost, swimming pool and outdoor spa. If a client doesn’t stay on appointed day, still client have to pay for the day he/she booked, for this Rainforest Hideaway would need to acquire credit card number.
